Paola Gortan was born on 12th February 1970 in San Daniele del Friuli. She attended the Istituto Tecnico e Commerciale V.Manzini in San Daniele where she got her diploma in 1989. After a first working experience as an administrative office- worker, she decided to mark a “creative” turning point in her life and resigned from her job to enroll at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in Spilimbergo. After three years of study she obtained the title of mosaicist in 1994 and for several years she worked in a lot of mosaic workshops. She has collaborated personally with quite a few architects and artists interested in having their works translated into mosaic, and in particular with her father Nino Gortan, an artist from whom she has inherited great manual abilities and a profound passion for all forms of art. In 1996 she opened a mosaic workshop in her hometown where she still lives, works, teaches and creates. She has started a new creative and artistic course carrying out her own works from the bozzetto to the production of the mosaic. She has participated in national and international art exhibitions and competitions obtaining many recognitions. Over the last six years she has been combining her creative activity with teaching, sharing her great passion for art and the mosaic with adults and children through courses held in the Scuola Mosaicisti in Spilimbergo, at her workshop and at district penitentiaries in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
